There is no denying that if you’re running a business, you need search engine optimization.
It’s powerful and costly…and takes a HUGE amount of time to see results.
One of the biggest questions I get from my clients is,
So, why does SEO take so freaking long to work?
That’s a good question and deserves an entire article. There, unfortunately, isn’t a short answer for this but I will do my best to keep it simple.
We Have To Study Everything
After you sign on to an agency or with a key SEO freelancing expert, the work gets pretty deep for those professionals.
The first thing we have to do is to get to know your company’s marketing strategy, competitive positioning, brand message, and target customer.
In SEO fashion, we conduct at least five audits to get this information.
The Audits take about a week to perform.
Once we get the audits, we have to study the information to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats; also known as the S.W.O.T. analysis.
We create our entire SEO strategy based on our findings. This could take 2-4 weeks depending on how in depth the SEO project is. If SEO is the core marketing channel your company uses, strategic planning is the most important part of the project and should be thorough and strong to support all of the other marketing campaigns you will run at some point.
If you are just doing On-Page SEO, it probably would take two weeks to plan, because it isn’t as large of a job.
We Have To Implement Everything
Whether it’s local SEO, organic, technical, or content there are at least 100 tasks that have to be performed to get SEO done right. Honestly, even if it’s done badly, there are still at least 100 tasks to complete.
The good news is an SEO firm and key SEO freelancer will have several experts working on your project at once. This why SEO services are on the pricey side. You have to pay for labor and materials for several top-notch professionals.
The bulk of implementation happens in the first two months. The first month we’re getting your project planned. By the second month, we are creating your opportunities, then by the third month, we are growing those opportunities into ROI.
You Should See SEO Working By the 4th Month
I did say, you would start seeing a return on your investment by the 3rd month, but that is what you would see with working with me.
My team and I are sales are driven, which isn’t really a primary focus for a lot of SEO agencies.
Simply, SEO is a process of connecting. Other digital marketing techniques like paid advertisement, content and email marketing coupled with SEO create a sales or growth driven campaign.
With that being said, you should determine your goals before you hire on an agency and make sure their approach aligns with yours.
Typically, SEO experts will say it takes longer than 3 months to start seeing results.
According to Forbes, many SEO firms will say it takes 4 to 6 months to start seeing results and SEO results grow over time.
Search Engine Journal says, “The short answer is it depends.” They follow with a number of variables you would have to take into consideration like competition, links, and content.
Similarly, SEO Mechanic agrees with both Forbes and Search Engine Journal that it takes 4 to 6 months to see results.
This appears to be the general consensus.
In conclusion, SEO takes so freaking long because there are hundreds of tasks involved and it takes Google and consumers a while to catch on.
This is why it’s best to go in with the mindset of an investor. Investments take time to mature, but when they do you get to reap the benefits. SEO is just like that. Practice patience. Stick with a campaign to fruition. Remember, those who win, keep on going.
